My Favorite Shanghai EP12|Shen Nai’er: The "Walls" that Symbolise Shanghai"s Spirits #shortvideoshowcase #vlog
Presented by Shen Nai’er
Shanghai has a nickname called “Modu”, the Magic City. Why “Modu”? One reason is that people think there might be an invisible “border wall” magically safeguarding Shanghai in each typhoon season. I couldn’t tell if the “wall” is existing or not, but I do know many real magic walls. Join me to take a city tour together.
Hiding behind the skyscrapers are the last remaining portions of the Shanghai City Wall, which is a defensive boundary built in 1554 during the Ming Dynasty. Most of the walls were dismantled in 1912, and today only two short sections remain.
Walking on the streets of Shanghai, you may see one of these street artworks. They are from “Color, Way of Love” ART+ project. The wall paintings created by artists from worldwide bring color and art into our daily lives, evoking care for rural children and love for the earth.
From the glimpse of “Modu”, we can read life stories about the city and Shanghainese families brick by brick.
I love Shanghai. I love this historical, open and glamorous Magic City.
